San Francisco Urban Murals Photo Exhibition

San Francisco, CA is best known for being an artist community with full of large full-scale murals all over the beautiful heart of downtown SF. The diverse form of non-commissioned public art was started early this year when the director of DPW (Department of Public Works) launched the StreetSMARTS program. The aim is to attack the murals graffiti vandalism in the city by paying urban artists to transform graffiti into beautiful large-scale art. The program connects established urban artists with private property owners to create vibrant murals. This has been a proven and effective strategy for making property less vulnerable to graffiti vandalism. For example when a tagger spray-paints his name or affiliations on a wall. A property owner can work with StreetSMARTS to have artists transform the painted graffiti into extraordinary murals. Below are some amazing pictures of San Francisco artworks. Enjoy.

Special thanks to Tommy Pohlmann for sharing this idea with us.
