Most average peppers in today’s world has roughly 2,500 to 5,000 on the Scoville scale of hotness. A newly developed pepper known as Naga Viper; however, was named as the hottest pepper in the world after beating out the previous Bhut Jolokia by over 300,000 units on the Scoville scale. The Naga Viper measures in at 1,359,000 Scovilles scale of fiery hell and was developed by Gerald Fowler at the Warwick University Research Facilities.

“It’s painful to eat,” Fowler told the Daily Mail. “It’s hot enough to strip paint.” Indeed, the Daily Mail reports that defense researchers are already investigating the pepper’s potential uses as a weapon.
A brave member of the Clifton Chili Club decided to taste the Naga Viper on camera and you can watch his painful experience below.
